In honor of Pride Month, we wanted to hear from our LGBTQ+ readers, so we posed asked some questions on Twitter and shared our favorite responses. Enjoy!
Being LGBTQ+ you hear a lot of the same stuff over and over again. Most of it is fine, or maybe even welcome! Some, however, are not the greatest things in the world to hear. For this reason we went to Twitter and posed the following question:
Queer People,-- Willie Muse (@Williesillie2) June 8, 2018
What's an annoying question people always ask/have trouble understanding about your sexuality/gender?
Below are some of our favorite answers:
1. EVERYONE MUST BE IMMEDIATELY DEFINED:
i get "what are you?" a lot and that annoys the shit out of me especially because I'm not really comfortable with the label bisexual right now but if i have to use a label it's the best one-- canime (@cammichelle) June 8, 2018
2. Or....do what feels right to you, maybe:
I am Bisexual and usually get "That's not a thing", "Just pick a side already" or "It's just a phase, you'll grow out of it soon enough"-- Payge Vandor (@PaygeVandor) June 9, 2018
3. Hrm...seems like God only does that for a select group of people then:
Feel free not to use if it "doesn't count" but as an asexual I always get the "God is saving you until you get married" etc. As if my libido is just gonna skyrocket the moment I say "I do." 🙄-- jenaipasdamis (@lilchick275) June 8, 2018
4. They've probably thought about this more than the person asking the question:
An annoying question I'm always asked is "Okay but are you sure your a man?"-- Blake "Reese" Mangon (@birbturb) June 9, 2018
Yes mom, I'm positive that I am of the male gender.
It has been 3 years damnit
5. Because the most important thing is grammar:
"isn't 'they' only for plural?" is a question i get a lot. and then there are the people who, after i tell them it's not, debate me about it and /insist/ i should go by 'it' instead-- d🏳️🌈 (@coolmailboxVEVO) June 8, 2018
"y-you dont? want to fuck??"-- the most annoying GROVES fan • 21(?) (@vvatchme) June 8, 2018
"oh i totally support you, but this is a phase and one day you'll settle down with a nice guy and have kids :)"
7. What an appropriate question:
im a trans man who also identifies as gay and people absolutely LOVE to ask me how i have sex! even if its my first conversation with them!!-- ryan (@binarycoronary) June 14, 2018
8. Imagine asking this question to literally anyone else:
I'm bigender and people can't seem to wrap their heads around the fact that "What genitals do you have" is not an appropriate question to ask anyone ever and it pisses me off greatly.-- SkyeeLineArt 💖💛💙 (@SkyeeLineArt) June 8, 2018
9. Because straight people have to have sex with everyone they've ever been attracted to:
"How can you still be bi if you're dating a guy? Does that mean you want to cheat on him?"-- stort little (@magiorosa) June 8, 2018
10. Just let people be who they are:
"What's polysexual?" is fine. A bit exhausting when almost no one I've met know what it means, but it's fine. But then there's "You're just making up words at this point." "Are you sure you're not just bi/pan?" "You're just saying you're polysexual to be ~different~ and unique."-- Chloe (@netflixandbad) June 8, 2018
